Types of facade plaster and scope of use

The first thing that catches your eye when looking at the building is the facade, which is the hallmark of the building. Therefore, they pay special attention to its lining, which combines the beauty of design and protection from negative environmental influences. The modern market is represented by a wide range of facing materials:

• various types of plaster,

• natural and artificial stone,

• variety of facing bricks,

• all kinds of tiles,

• decorative siding and others.

A more common and acceptable way to decorate the facade is decorative plaster. The composition of this material is not the same, it differs in the characteristics of the components and the type of surface obtained. Its texture depends on the size of the granules. Ready mix or dry plaster is currently freely purchased at hardware stores or made by hand.

Depending on the composition, the following types are distinguished:

• mineral;

• silicone;

• acrylic;

• silicate.

Mineral

The solution of mineral plaster includes white cement, limestone, sand, lime. The advantages of such a mixture are that it protects walls well from moisture, thanks to hydrophobic additives. To increase strength, apply it on fixed plaster meshes. Does not burn. It is easy to cover an object with it – the finished mixture is stirred before starting work, and in the price range – this building material is available to many.

A small drawback – white and gray colors. But it’s easy to fix. Just choose the color you like and paint the surface with it. In addition, the paint strengthens it, as it tends to penetrate into the pores of the plaster. The second disadvantage can be considered low resistance to mechanical stress.

Silicone finish

Silicone plaster is successfully used for exterior decoration of the facade. One of the features is that mixtures containing silicone do not need to be mixed and diluted. They are ready to use. It contains silicone resin, which gives the plaster elasticity and ductility. Repels water, allows walls to “breathe”.

Advantages:

• different pigments in the composition of silicone coatings allow you to diversify the color range;

• superbly retain heat;

• durable, not exposed to sunlight, rain and snow;

• have an amazing ability to repel dirt;

• absence of flammable and toxic elements in the composition;

• resists the occurrence of fungi and mold.

Such plaster can be applied to the wall manually or using a plastering machine. It can imitate any finishing material, as well as create relief images, which will subsequently be painted.

Acrylic

Facade acrylic plaster is not the most stable and durable. However, it has a number of characteristics that distinguish it from analogues. This is a low price, a huge range of colors, plasticity and ease of use. There are no perfect building materials in the world. Acrylic coating also has its drawbacks: poor resistance to ultraviolet rays, the coloring pigment completely disappears under the influence of the sun.

Poor adhesion to metal surfaces complicates the plaster. Service life is short. You need to apply it as quickly as possible and cover a large surface at once. And yet, there are many more advantages. Acrylic mix has no natural deformation. The presence of plasticizers in the composition allows the surfaces covered with it not to crack when the walls shrink. It can be tinted in any color and shade.

silicate

Nowadays, silicate coating is becoming more and more popular. Exterior interior designers like to work with him, considering him an extravagant and creative technique for decorating the facade. Silicate plaster is based on potassium liquid glass. Such a binding element allows, along with low elasticity, to increase the vapor permeability of the coating. In this case, moisture does not accumulate on the surface, but disappears from it. It fits well on any difficult surfaces, dust does not settle on it. Also available in finished form with a wide range of colors.

Start and finish

Facade plaster can be starting and finishing. The first is used to create a foundation (sealing cracks or leveling walls). The second is used in decorative trim. A smooth plaster surface is less durable than a rough one. Textured coatings are varied. In choosing them, you will be helped by specialists in specialized stores.

It is very important to choose the right plaster for the facade. The right choice will create an irresistible and individual appearance of the house.
